VI. Residents

The horses, ponies, mules and donkeys that reside at the Horse Retirement Home range in age from the late teens to our oldest resident which is a very special mule named Annie. Annie is an amazing 47 years old. Although Annie is deaf and partially blind, her appearance and her spirit are that of a 10 year old. Annie had experienced a wonderful retirement here at the Horse Retirement Home, and has reached this incredible age while under our diligent care and nutritional program. There is no substitute for proper care, and Annie is just one of the exemplary retirees you will meet when visiting the Horse Retirement Home.

Lollipop is a pony mare in her early twenties that is very deserving of a peaceful retirement. She was a hurricane victim of South Florida and ended up at the Horse Protection Association of Florida in foal and traumatized. Lollipop is nearing her two year mark here at the Horse Retirement Home, where she has developed a strong bond with the staff and spends her days basking in the sun and relaxing in her stress free surroundings. Lollipop will likely be the first to greet you and check your pockets when you arrive at the Horse Retirement Home and you will instantly see the happiness she and all of the other retirees so vividly exhibit.
